Community Bulletin Board St. Stan’s carnival offers nightly food, fun

St. Stan’s carnival will take place from 6-11 p.m. June 25 and 26; 6 p.m. to midnight June 27, and 6-11 p.m. June 28 on the St. Stanislaus Kostka parish grounds, MacArthur Avenue and Main Street, Sayreville.

Highlights will include an opening flag-raising ceremony with color guard; rides for children and adults; games of chance; a Las Vegas wheel for adults; nightly 50/50 drawings; a food tent; a fresh seafood area; nightly entertainment; a June 27 fish fry beginning at 5 p.m.; a pig roast; desserts; and a beer garden.

The entertainment lineup is as follows:

• June 25 at 5:45 p.m. — opening flag-raising ceremony with color guard, DJ Bruce Zamorski;

• June 26 — DJ music;

• June 27 — Joe and Jo Ann Walter;

• June 28 — The McCarthy Brothers Band, DJ John Bartlinski.

St. Stan’s Alumni Night is set for June 27.

Discount advance tickets are now available for carnival rides. Advance tickets cost $10 for a 15-ticket sheet (a $6 savings) and are available after all Masses, at the parish office until June 24 and at:

• Sayreville Seafood and Deli, Washington Road, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 14;

• St. Stan’s School, 10 a.m. to noon on June 21.

Join the Major Leagues

campaign set at library

The Monroe Township Library, Major League Baseball and the American Library Association will team up for the Join the Major Leagues @ Your Library campaign designed to help youngsters read and learn baseball trivia.

Contestants will use books and other reference materials to fill out entry forms at the library, 4 Municipal Plaza, and send them in for a chance to win World Series tickets. The campaign is open to all age groups and will begin with the library’s June 18 "Dads Read" event.

Summer reading club

set at Spotswood Library

An adult summer reading club, Books Bloom, is set for June 27-Aug. 22 at the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St. The club is open to Spotswood Library cardholders ages 14 and older. Registration is now going on.

Participants are encouraged to use the reading club log to record the date, the author and number of pages read.

Weekly prize drawings will begin on July 5. End-of-summer grand prize categories will be oldest book read, longest book read and most nonfiction pages read.
