Mayor’s behavior demands investigation

To the editor

The Courier News has shown that Mayor Gwiazdowski lied to the public about the recent Somerset County investigation of the township municipal offices.
Mr. Gwiazdowski claimed that he did not know why the prosecutor’s office was interviewing employees. He also denied that the investigation was politically motivated, again claiming that no Republican had anything to do with the investigation.
Thanks to Courier News reporting, we now know that it was Mayor Gwiazdowski himself who called for the investigation. Mr. Gwiazdowski started making calls to the prosecutor’s office back in the beginning of May, and yet, after repeated conversations with the prosecutor’s office, he still maintained that he didn’t know anything except what he "read in the papers."
Are we to believe that he didn’t make the connection between his phone calls and the prosecutor’s investigation? Mayor Gwiazdowski is lying to all of us.
The Courier News states that Mr. Gwiazdowski wouldn’t admit that he made the phone calls to Wayne Forrest’s office until he was told about official documents from the prosecutor’s office that named him as the source of the charges.
When he was caught in his lies, his next move was to attack Prosecutor Forrest and his detectives for acting too quickly on his call for an investigation! Mr. Gwiazdowski even went so far as to state "obviously the prosecutor’s office has nothing better to do. They must be sitting around waiting for the phone to ring."
It is also very important to remember that as a result of Mr. Gwiazdowski’s call for an investigation, there were innocent people falsely charged with wrongdoing. Innocent people who Mr. Gwiazdowski put through hell!
This entire incident has given Hillsborough taxpayers a huge black eye. It has been a major embarrassment to the township brought on by the unethical actions of Mayor Gwiazdowski.
All elected officials have a moral and ethical responsibility to be truthful. Mr. Gwiazdowski has lied to the people of Hillsborough, and then attempted to cover up his lies.
As a member of the Republican Party elected to the Hillsborough Township Committee he must be held accountable for his actions. It is time that an ethics investigation is conducted against Mr. Gwiazdowski.
I am quite certain that Committeemen Steven Scireci and John Souren will not call for this investigation, therefore I am asking that Joseph Tricarico, Sonya Martin and all township residents officially request an official ethics investigation into Mr. Gwiazdowski’s misconduct.
