Bicyclist hurt in accident

MONROE — A 39-year-old township man was seriously injured shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a van while riding his bicycle.

Police said Joseph Laduca of Buckelew Avenue was riding his bicycle north on Buckelew Avenue at its intersection with School House Road when he was struck by a van being operated by Darren Sobel, 28, of East Windsor, Mercer County.

Sobel had been traveling east on School House Road.

According to police, witnesses at the scene reported that Laduca had disregarded a red light while traveling through the intersection.

Laduca was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, where he was treated for head, back and internal injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman said yesterday that Laduca was in good condition.
