sand sculpting contest
The Monroe Township Recreation Department will sponsor its fifth annual sand sculpting contest through Sept. 6. The competition is open to township residents who create a sand sculpture during any trip to a beach or lake.
Awards will be presented on Sept. 15 to participants in the following divisions: 5 years old and under; 6-12 years; teens; family team; adult singles.
To enter, interested individuals should send a photo that includes themselves, their family/friends or team members with the sand sculpture to the Monroe Township Recreation Department, 120 Monmouth Road, Monroe Township NJ 08831, Attn.: Claire Juraska. Contestants’ names and telephone numbers should be written on the back of the photo.

Our Lady of Victories
to hold parish festival
The Our Lady of Victories (OLV) Parish Festival will be held from 6-10 p.m. on July 31, 6-11 p.m. on Aug. 1, and 2-11 p.m. on Aug. 2 on the parish grounds, Main Street, Sayreville.
The event will feature rides, wheels of chance, nightly and super 50/50s, an indoor craft fair and attic treasures. A seafood garden, a Philippine barbecue, Italian spaghetti and various other ethnic cuisine will be available.
The OLV summer Bible camp singers and Joe and Joann Walter will entertain on July 31. John Walsh will be featured on Aug. 1. The Rockdaddys will be the entertainment on Aug. 2.
Advance-sale ride tickets are now available by calling the parish CCD office at (732) 238-9222. Tickets will be sold in July after Saturday and Sunday Masses.
Hospital will offer free
cancer support group
Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Jacqueline M. and Robert N. Wilentz Cancer Center will hold its monthly support group meeting for individuals with cancer beginning at 6 p.m. on June 23 in Auxiliary Hall B, lower level of the Old Bridge Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the hospital, off Ferry Road, between routes 9 and 18.
The meetings provide a supportive environment where concerns and anxieties can be explored and coping skills enhanced. Medical and educational topics also will be addressed. Family members are welcome. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.

St. Peter’s will offer
Safe Sitter program
St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, will offer a Safe Sitter program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 30 in the hospital’s Sister Marie dePazzi Conference Center, 254 Easton Ave. Girls and boys ages 11-13 are invited to participate. The course will teach adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. Participants will learn what to do for a choking child or if a child stops breathing; how to call for emergency help; how to feed and diaper a small child; and how to entertain children and keep them safe.
Fee is $50 and covers all materials and costs. Space is limited to 18 students. Registration is now going on. For more information and to reserve, call (732) 745-6699. The course also will be offered on July 23 at the 4-H Center, Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, and on Aug. 27 at St. Peter’s.
