MARLBORO — Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the theft of power tools from the Lowe’s home improvement center, Route 9.
Police said that on June 4 a man entered Lowe’s and stole power tools worth $1,960. According to Marlboro police Detective Edward Clayton, Lowe’s security officers notified the police that a man was caught on tape gathering DeWalt power tools into a shopping cart and then proceeding to unload the tools into his car from the garden center of the store.
Clayton said that if the suspect is caught, he will be charged with theft. Additional penalties will depend on whether the suspect has a prior criminal history.
"We have a reason to believe that he has done it before sometime in February," the detective said.
Clayton declined to say how the suspect transported the tools from the garden center to his automobile. He said still images taken from the surveillance camera show a white man with dark hair wearing a white sleeveless shirt with a tattoo on his left bicep.
"We are not sure at this time exactly what type of car the individual was driving," he said. "We do know that it is a silver two-door car."
Judging from where the suspect’s vehicle entered the parking lot, Clayton said police believe he may have come from the Monroe Township or Jamesburg vicinity. The Route 520 side entrance to Lowe’s leads west toward Monroe Township and Jamesburg.
Police are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Marlboro Police Department at (732) 536-0100.
