VNA sets golf classic
Aug. 4 at Shore Oaks
The Shore Oaks Golf Club, Farmingdale, will be the setting for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey’s 17th Annual Golf Classic. The event is slated for Aug. 4, with a rain date of Aug. 5. The golf outing will begin with registration at 11 a.m. and lunch on the patio at 11:30 a.m. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m.
Awards will include the Robert C. Stanley Memorial Cup for the low gross foursome, as well as prizes for low net team, low gross and net individual, longest drive (male/female), and nearest to the pin on every par-3.
Hole-in-one prizes include $15,000 cash and a Land Rover from Land Rover of Monmouth. A cocktail buffet will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a gourmet dinner buffet and awards party.
A super raffle, which is open to the public, also will be held in conjunction with the golf classic.
The fee is $325 per person and includes golfer gifts, meals, refreshments, greens fees, locker room privileges, golf carts, awards and prizes.

‘Bicycle Safety Rodeo’
July 12 in Marlboro
The Knights of Columbus Council 6392, in conjunction with the Marlboro Police Department and Cub Scout Pack 6392 or Marlboro Elementary School, will sponsor the "Marlboro Bicycle Safety Rodeo" July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marlboro Elementary School. The rain date is July 19.
The event is designed to teach young children how to safely share the road with pedestrians, other bikers and automobiles. The police will register the bicycles and teach the children about safety, the Bicycle Hub of Matawan will check the bicycles over to be sure they are street worthy and safe, and ADAPT (Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Prevention Team) of Marlboro High School will help the children through an obstacle course.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the last clinic will begin at 1 p.m.
House museums are open to the public
The four house museums of the Monmouth County Historical Association are open to the public for the season.
In Shrewsbury, the Allen House, Route 35 and Sycamore Avenue, operated as a tavern during the 18th century. The Covenhoven House, 150 W. Main St., Freehold, was built in 1752 and served as British Gen. Clinton’s headquarters before the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. The Holmes-Hendrickson House, 62 Longstreet Road, Holmdel, was an active family farm house built circa 1754 in the Dutch tradition. Marlpit Hall, 137 Kings Highway, Middletown, was built circa 1756 and was home to a family loyal to the king of England.
The houses are open every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through September. All sites will be closed on July 4. A nominal admission is charged.
