An elderly man with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases who walked away from the home he was visiting Monday morning was found Tuesday evening behind a vacant business lot in the 700 block of Mount Lucas Road.
Police said Norris Barnes, 80, who was visiting from the U.S. Virgin Islands, had been missing since about 9 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Barnes had been visiting with relatives on Red Oak Row in Princeton Community Village since June 27 and was last seen sitting on the front porch of the relatives’ residence, police said.
Mr. Barnes had been the subject of a large-scale manhunt, which started Monday afternoon and included search-dog teams, firefighters and first-aid personnel. Streets were scoured and the nearby woods were searched, but without success, police said.
Mr. Barnes was found by a family member after it was learned that a man fitting his description had been seen Monday afternoon in the area of Bunn Drive and Herrontown Road. He was found around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He had apparently been wandering all night and was suffering from exposure when he was found. He was taken to University Medical Center at Princeton, where he was reported to be in fair condition, police said Wednesday.
