New Brunswick man dies following crash

EAST BRUNSWICK — A 20-year-old man died this week as the result of injuries he sustained in an accident that took place Sunday night on Route 18.

Jose Morel, of New Brunswick, died earlier this week at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, where he was taken following the 10:36 p.m. accident, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Morel was driving a 1994 Honda Accord southbound on Route 18 at the intersection with Eggers Street when his vehicle struck the concrete divider that divides the highway, according to police.

The vehicle, which police said had been traveling at a high rate of speed, became airborne following the collision. The vehicle rolled several times after landing in the southbound lanes, and eventually came to rest on its roof.

During the accident, Morel was ejected from the vehicle and sustained what police described as a serious head injury.

He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson by members of the East Brunswick Rescue Squad.
