Residents deserve responsible leaders

To the editor

On Tuesday, July 8, hundreds of angry residents flooded the Hillsborough Municipal Building protesting the largest property tax increase in the township’s history.
My taxes increased 63 percent, which is outrageous! Many of the residents, like myself, can’t afford to live in a town where property taxes increased 60 percent or more.
What were the answers these outraged citizens received from the Republican-dominated Township Committee — buck passing and blaming prior administrations.
Prior Democratic-led administrations from January, 2000, to January, 2003, stabilized the municipal budget to an annualized average increase of 3.33 percent.
Last year, Republican candidates were elected because they promised to CUT property taxes, not increase property taxes.
Tax-paying residents deserve more than excuses, buck passing, and ineptitude. The citizens of Hillsborough deserve responsible, competent government.
