PLAINSBORO The township has received $150,000 in state funding to help make it safer for pedestrians to cross Scotts Corner Road.
The township received the grant through the 2003 Transportation Trust Fund with help from state Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) and Assemblyman Gary Guear (D-Hamilton).
The grant will be used to offset the cost of reconstructing three non-signalized intersections where pedestrians cross Scotts Corner Road.
Improvements, such as construction of bus pullouts and shelters with bicycle racks, curbing, road striping and additional signage to alert motorists to pedestrian traffic, will be added to the intersections of Hampshire Drive, Ravens Crest Drive, Madison Drive, Quail Ridge Drive and Franklin Drive.
"Pedestrian and transit access are high priorities of the community, which will be achieved with the help of this state funding," Mayor Peter Cantu said. "We are pleased to be able to work with our (state) Assembly members to obtain this funding that will directly impact the lives of Plainsboro residents."
