J. Barton Luedeke, now a Pennington resident, will join the staff of Mercer County Community College on Aug. 25.

   J. Barton Luedeke — who recently retired as president of Rider University and moved from Lawrenceville to Pennington — will join the staff of Mercer County Community College on Aug. 25.
Dr. Luedeke will teach mathematics as an adjunct professor and will work part-time with faculty members and administrative staff on the assessment of college effectiveness and student success.
According to Thomas N. Wilfrid, MCCC’s vice president of academic and student affairs, "We are thrilled to have Bart join Mercer for the next phase of his career. His insights, talent and expertise will help the college to frame and investigate important research questions using accepted best practices in higher education. This process is critical to the college’s institutional integrity and to the reaccreditation process."
Dr. Wilfrid said Dr. Luedeke’s "extensive experience and prominence, both in higher education and in the local community, will be great assets. Working with Bart should be particularly valuable to the professional development of faculty and staff members who aspire to be institutional leaders."
Dr. Luedeke will continue to serve as board chairman of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association and of the New Jersey Manufacturers’ Insurance Companies.
Dr. Luedeke began his presidency of Rider University in 1990. He previously served the university for 19 years as assistant to the president, associate provost, dean of the College of Continuing Studies, vice president for academic affairs and provost.
He earned his doctorate in higher education administration with an emphasis in statistics and research design from the University of Illinois in Urbana. He also holds degrees from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and from Hanover College in Hanover, Ind. Early in his career he worked for the Proctor and Gamble Company and taught high school mathematics.
