July 31 meeting in O.B.
Composer George Wallington, the "Mystery Man of Jazz," will be the topic of discussion at the next meeting of the Central Jersey Jazz Association (CJJA) set for 7:30-9 p.m. on July 31 at the George Bush Senior Citizen and Human Resources Center, in the municipal complex, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.
Irene Clavering, CJJA president, will offer a presentation on Wallington, a pianist who performed around the world with such diverse artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Quincy Jones and Lionel Hampton. The "mystery" is that Wallington left jazz at the height of his career and did not return until 25 years later. Selections from the composer’s works will be played and discussed throughout the presentation.

‘Same Old Song’ set for
Monroe Library film fest
The Summer International Film Festival at the Monroe Township Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will continue on July 30 with 2 and 7 p.m. screenings of the French musical The Same Old Song.
The 1998 film, which will be shown in its original language with English subtitles, is rated R. Running time is 98 minutes. Tickets cost $1 and are available at the library.
Set in Paris, the satirical romance is an homage to the offbeat musicals of the late Dennis Potter (Pennies From Heaven, The Singing Detective) in which characters burst into lip-synched song — often in reversed gender — at unlikely moments.
The film festival is sponsored by The Friends of the Monroe Township Library.
