OLD BRIDGE — Citing an overwhelming response from residents, township police have scheduled a second section of the weeklong Youth Police Academy training program.
The Police Department is now accepting applications for the second session, scheduled to run Aug. 18-22. As with the first session, classes will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, according to Police Sgt. Robert Weiss.
Because the volume of applications exceeded the 28-participant limit for the training that was scheduled for July 21 through 25, the police administration decided to run a second session in August, Weiss said.
All the topics slated to be covered in July will be covered in the August session.
Boys and girls ages 11 to 15 are invited to participate in the program, which includes physical training and drill instruction, fingerprinting and crime scene investigation, a canine demonstration, and instruction in traffic and motor vehicle laws.
A five-page application can be downloaded from the Police Department’s link on the township’s Web site, www.oldbridge.com.
Completed, signed applications, and a check for the $25 tuition should be mailed as soon as possible to Capt. Robert Bonfante at the Old Bridge Police Department, One Old Bridge Plaza, Old Bridge, NJ, 08857.
Applications can also be picked up at Police Headquarters. Questions or comments can be directed via e-mail to [email protected], or by calling (732) 721-5600, ext. 3420 or 3434.
