Rutgers Lifelong Learning
to offer fall courses, seminars

Registration is now going on for fall courses offered by the Rutgers University Academy for Lifelong Learning (RU-ALL), a program open to New Jersey residents over age 50. Classes for the 10-week semester will begin on Sept. 4 and will be held at the Reformed Church, 23 S. Second Ave., Highland Park, and at the Monroe Township Senior Center and the Monroe Township Library, both in the municipal complex, Perrineville Road.

RU-ALL will offer 36 noncredit courses and seminars, with topics ranging from history to sociology to science to classic and modern literature. New courses will include "Aging in Film," "The American-Jewish Experience," "The Nature of Poetry," "Food Flicks" and "Play Reading." The fall semester also will feature discussion groups on foreign policy, rational controversy, current events and spirituality.

In addition, a variety of programs will focus on arts and culture. Fall selections will include "French Literature," "The Poems of T.S. Eliot," "The World of Justice in Literature" and "Shakespearean Themes in Film."

Classes on drawing, collage, mixed media and Mozart’s operas will be available along with gallery tours of the Zimmerli Art Museum, New Brunswick. Plays at New Brunswick’s George Street Playhouse and State Theatre, each preceded by a lecture and discussion, will round out the term’s offerings.

All courses are led by active and retired instructors from area colleges, universities and high schools. Some instructors are Rutgers professors.

There are no grades or exams, and RU-ALL is open to individuals with or without a college degree. Participants may choose up to two courses for a $100 fee, $50 for first-time registrants.

Classes will be held during the day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Reformed Church, and Thursdays and Fridays at the Monroe Township Senior Center and the Monroe Township Library. All locations are accessible to the handicapped, and on-site parking is available.

Advance registration by Aug. 28 is required for all courses.
