JAMES E. DUGAN, 79, of Howell died July 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in the Bradevelt section of Marlboro, Mr. Dugan lived there before moving to Howell a year ago. He was a partner in his family business, the F.J. Dugan & Sons Feed, Grain and Coal Co., Marlboro, for 20 years. After his years in the family business, he was employed as an operating engineer for National Lead Co., Perth Amboy, and then retired as chief engineer after 17 years at the W.C.I. Corp., Edison. Mr. Dugan was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer Escort 343, USS Abercrombie. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1454, Freehold; and local No. 68, Operating Engineers, AFLCIO, West Caldwell. He was predeceased by a son, James Dugan, in 1960, and a daughter, Regina M. Dugan, in 1995. Mr. Dugan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Krystoff Dugan; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Cynthia Dugan of Aberdeen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. and Richard Galatro of Oakhurst, and Carolyn Dugan of Holmdel; two brothers, Frank J. Dugan Jr. of Matawan and Jack Dugan of Freehold Township; a sister, Sara Frank of Howell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Church, followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Marlboro.

DR. GEORGE J. BRUCKER, 81, of West Long Branch, died Aug. 1 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Eatontown prior to relocating to West Long Branch in 1969. Dr. Brucker was a consultant to the U.S. Army, Fort Monmouth, since 1992, as well as NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. Prior to that, he was senior staff scientist at Astor-Space Division, and RCA David Sarnoff Laboratories, both Princeton, and as a nuclear scientist at Fort Monmouth. He was a nuclear and radiation physicist and authority on atomic bomb radiation effects on electronic systems and devices. He served with the U.S. Navy assigned to an LST (landing ship tank) in the Pacific Fleet, Amphibious Forces where he participated in the landing on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged after three years. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. During his career, he published 94 papers, and he and his colleague, Dr. S. Kronenberg, were awarded three patents from research at Fort Monmouth, Nuclear Research Facility. He was responsible for investigating and characterizing the silicon intensifier tube for use in the television system of the Apollo spacecraft and the Moon Rover Vehicle, and designed and carried out experiments to characterize state-of-the-art semiconductor integrated circuits in nuclear and space environments. Dr. Brucker was predeceased by a sister, Ann Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Orlacchio Brucker; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Bonnie Brucker of Houston; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Drs. Michele and Kevin Collier of Monmouth Beach, Deborah Kelly of Chicago, and Jackie and Robert Stuckey of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. BONNIE LEE CHERNAVSKY GLENN, 51, of Long Branch, formerly of Fair Haven, died July 30 at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, she resided in Fair Haven for 18 years before moving to Long Branch 10 years ago. Mrs. Glenn is survived by her husband, Roy Glenn; two daughters, Shannon Neopolitano Beckner of Brick and Marni Neopolitano Gutierrez of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her mother, Patricia Chernavsky of Manasquan; two brothers, Danny Chernavsky of Fair Haven and Dennis Redditt of Lumberton; three sisters, Sue Smith of Manasquan, Jill Homefield of Middletown, and Bridget Vanderbos of Spring Lake Heights; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
