Police Blotter-Aug. 14

Lambertville

A Jericho, N.Y., man, who stopped to ask police if any of his relatives had been injured in a nearby motor vehicle accident, wound up being arrested and charged with drunken driving.
About 4 a.m. Saturday morning, a car flipped over on Route 29 just south of Lambertville. Police blocked the two southbound lanes and turned traffic around to bypass the accident scene.
Kenneth W. Hughes, 33, was one of the motorists stuck in traffic. When he got to police, he stopped in the center of the southbound lanes and didn’t make the U-turn as he was signaled to do.
Police called to Mr. Hughes several times, informing him of the accident and telling him to make the U-turn, police said. Mr. Hughes responded by asking if any of his relatives had been injured in the accident. He additionally told the officer he had no relatives in the area and didn’t know why he would think any of his relatives had been in the accident.
Mr. Hughes’s speech was slurred and, when police approached his car, Mr. Hughes said he’d been drinking, and he’d had "too many." He then started talking about different United States presidents, police said, and said President Bush had phoned him earlier in the day.
Mr. Hughes could not produce his driver’s license, registration or insurance card. He was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license, having a suspended registration and drunken driving. He was released without bail.

When police arrived, Ms. Dengler was sitting in her car in the inn’s rear parking lot. Ms. Dengler was bleeding from her head and right hand, the result of a fall in the parking lot, police said. Her car also was scratched and dented, the result of a recent accident, police said.
She refused treatment. She was arrested after trying to pull away from police several times. She also was charged with refusal to take a Breathalyzer test and resisting arrest. She was released to a friend who posted $2,500 10 percent bail.

Friday, two 20-year-old Lambertville women called police at 3:20 a.m. to report being assaulted by a man in front of the Ringside Pub at 90 S. Main St. minutes earlier.
