The latest announcement of the widening of the Ernston Road and Bordentown Avenue intersection by Middlesex County does little to bring hope to the drivers who use it. We’ve heard it so many times that no one honestly believes anything will come of it.
Adding to the tale is the nonsensical attachment of "historical site" to the problems that must be overcome. To restore the bridge to its original form, it would have to first be shortened (it was lengthened when Ernston Road was widened under the bridge), the welded rail would have to be replaced with sectional track, and steam-powered locomotives would have to make a comeback.
