Community events
bring people together
Residents of Howell and Jackson will gather in their respective communities on Saturday and celebrate the towns they call home.
With so many new residents arriving in these central New Jersey bedroom communities each year, a visit to an event such as Jackson Day or Howell Day is a great way to meet people and learn about many things one’s new community has to offer.
Both events have become late-summer traditions and the volunteers and municipal employees who put in the work to arrange the vendors, entertainment and amusements are to be commended for the efforts they make.
There will be many highlights in both towns and something for people of all ages to enjoy. Here is a brief rundown:
Jackson Day events will begin with a 5-kilometer run starting at the municipal building parking lot at 8 a.m. Participants can register up until race time.
At 11:30 a.m., parade participants will leave the Holman School and head for John F. Johnson Jr. Memorial Park. Once the parade concludes at Johnson Park, there will be rides, entertainment, food and fun. Live entertainment will start at 3 p.m. and continue to 8:30 p.m. The big day in Jackson will close with a fireworks display.
Residents of Howell will come together at Oak Glen Park for the annual Howell Day festivities that will begin at noon and run until dusk.
This year’s extravaganza will feature live entertainment from 1960s performers Lesley Gore, the Marvelettes and Cornell Gunther’s Coasters.
In addition to the live entertainment, there will be a classic car show, rides, food and vendor booths. There will be a bicycle auction at 12:30 p.m.
Fall is fast approaching and then winter will be right around the corner. Grab the last opportunity of the summer to enjoy the town you have chosen to call home.
