Women Helping Women launches teen work­shops

Women Helping Women, the nonprofit organization providing therapy and support services for women, young girls and teens throughout Somerset, Middlesex and Union counties, will launch its new "Strong Girls" teen program on Oct. 16 in Metuchen.

This dynamic and interactive series of workshops, geared specifically for teenage girls, is designed to provide an opportunity to build self-esteem, enhance communication skills, understand and manage feelings, and provide each participant with a strong sense of self.

Workshops topics include:

"Today, more than ever, teenage girls face a myriad of challenges — from standing strong in the face of relationship pressures to learning to find inner calm and peace in today’s hectic and often violent world," said Melissa Higgins, Women Helping Women executive director. "Teenage girls struggling with body issues, depression, family tensions and identity often have nowhere to turn. Women Helping Women’s ‘Strong Girls’ teen program is designed to provide teenagers with the hands-on skills and information they need to be their best."

The fee for each two-hour workshop is $25, $20 for WHW members. The registration fee for the entire series is $100, $80 for WHW members. Each workshop will be held at the First Presbyterian Church education building, 270 Woodbridge Ave., Metuchen from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
