Obituaries Nicholas Vasilievich Feodoroff

Mr. Feodoroff, 101, of Suffern, N.Y., formerly of Howell, died Sept. 28 at Ramapo Manor Nursing Home, Suffern. Born in Russia, he left there in 1920 and came to the United States in 1929, becoming a citizen in 1938. From 1917-21, he served with the White Russian Army. Among the many awards he received was the St. George medal. He earned an undergraduate degree in engineering in 1935 from Columbia University, New York City. In 1952 he earned his doctorate degree from Sequoia University in California. Mr. Feodoroff was a professor of engineering at both Columbia University and the City College of the City University of New York. He also taught at Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y.; Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck; and the International Technology Institute at the University of the Netherlands. From 1937-38 he headed the research board of Water Supply, Honolulu, Hawaii. From 1939-54 he was the head research associate for fluid mechanics and hydraulics at Columbia University, as well as a consultant for the W. Brigs Engineering Co., New Rochelle, N.Y. During the 1950s, he was the director of several projects, including the Commonwealth Edison research project and the Whirlpool research project. He was a member of the Scientific and Professional Society, a fellow in the New York Academy of Science, the chairman of the math and engineering section of the Royal Society’s Engineering Sciences, and a member of the Columbia Alumni Engineering Association. He was a former vice president of the American Russian Aid Association and a former president of the Russian American Scholars Association. Mr. Feodoroff received honors from the Fellowship of Research, Sequoia Research Institute and the American Order of the Association of National des Croix de Querre of France. He was a fellow lifetime member of the Russian American Engineers. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Feodoroff, in 1953. There are no known survivors. The pannyhida was held at St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Howell. The funeral service took place the following day at the cathedral, followed by interment at St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Jackson.

Mary Varga Cybula

Mrs. Cybula, 93, of South Brunswick died Oct. 4 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Hungary, she moved to the United States as a child and lived in South River, Sayreville and East Brunswick prior to moving to South Brunswick 30 years ago. She was a forelady at Louis F. Brodsky and Sons, South River, for several years prior to retirement. She enjoyed gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex Cybula, in 1992; her brother, Geza Varga; and two sisters, Helen Valena and Elizabeth Alexander. She is survived by her sister, Susanne Koziatek of South River; and several nieces and nephews. Interment was at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River. Arrangements were by Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood.

Marion Jean Woodfield Tice

Mrs. Woodfield, 82, of Clarksville, Va., died Oct. 1 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, Va. She was a teller for Colonial National Bank until her retirement. She was predeceased by her first husband, Elias Pease, and her second husband, Lester Tice. She is survived by her three daughters, Sheryl Pelela of Clarksville, Va.; Janet Kuey of Cream Ridge; and Joan Walling of Howell; a sister, Sarah Wardell of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a brother Russell Woodfield of Floral City, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held at C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Howell. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.

Emma Valli

Mrs. Valli, 95, of Lakewood died Oct. 10 at Brighton Gardens of Leisure Park, Lakewood. Born in New York City, she lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Lakewood 34 years ago. For many years she worked as a legal stenographer for the Brooklyn law firm Donahy, Delaney & Manetti. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband, Victor. Surviving are three sons, Victor E. Valli Jr. of Ocala, Fla., Robert Valli of New Hyde Park, N.Y., and Arthur Valli of West Pittstown, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood, followed by burial at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. Mr. Hendry, 80, of Freehold died Oct. 6 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Born in Winter Haven, Fla., he had lived in Howell and Freehold Township before moving to Freehold 25 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Freehold Taxi, Freehold, for 30 years. Prior to that, for 17 years he had owned and operated George’s Taxi in Howell. He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, and a former member of the Sixth Street Baptist Church, Lakewood. He was also the former chairman for the Freehold Borough Assistance Board. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert Durham Hendry and Bobby Hendry; a brother, James Quarterman; and a sister, Dorothy J. Waters. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Lillie Ham Hendry; three daughters, Gloria Jean Hendry of Granada Hills, Calif., Milika Gladys Hendry of Pasadena, Calif., and Jeanette Williams of South Brunswick; three brothers, John Hendry of San Diego, Allen Henry of Winter Haven, Fla., and Her­bert Lee Hendry of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, fol­lowed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Sharp Becker

Mrs. Becker, 82, of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick died Oct. 4 at Rahway hospital. Born in Hackensack, she resided in Rossmoor and Spotswood prior to moving to Kendall Park. She was a retired executive sec­retary. She attended St. James Church, Jamesburg. She was predeceased by her hus­band, Chester Becker, in 1996. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Eleanor and Steve Raphel of Kendall Park, and Karen Peder of Jackson; her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Joanne Becker of Florence; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaugh­ter. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Church. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Ar­rangements were by Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick.

Virginia M. Southern

Mrs. Southern, 84, of Manchester died Oct. 11 at home. Born in South Norfolk, Va., she resided in Westwood and River Vale before moving to Manchester in 1989. She was employed in retail sales for 20 years, and at the Naval Acquisition Depot, Norfolk, Va., during World War II. She was a member of and held various positions at Christ United Methodist Church, Lakewood, since 1989. Prior to that, she was a member of and held various positions at Westwood United Methodist Church for 38 years. Mrs. Southern was predeceased by her hus­band, Robert, in 1986; and a son, William Southern, in 1989. She is survived by a son, Steven Southern of Oceanport; a sister, Kathleen Wilson of Chesapeake, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Ronald P. Wogas

Mr. Wogas, 64, of Freehold died Sept. 15 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and for the past 20 years lived in Manalapan and Freehold. Before his retirement 22 years ago, he was a New York City police officer with the 62nd Precinct in Brooklyn for 20 years. A member of the New York City Policeman’s Benevolent Association, Ticket Sellers Union Local 751, for 15 years, Mr. Wogas was also a member of the New York City Emerald Society. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Linda Rivers Wogas; his mother, Christina Condon Deane; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Billy Matlock of Jackson, and Lisa Wogas and Shawn Kiernan of Freehold; a son, Christopher Wogas of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Kathleen Wogas of Staten Island; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Chip Jorgensen of Manalapan; three granddaughters; three stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Betty A. Dronne

Mrs. Dronne, 67, of Howell died Oct. 11 at home. A lifelong resident of the Freehold area, she was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, and a graduate of Freehold High School. Surviving are her husband, W. Russell Dronne; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Russell and Bonny Dronne, Scott and Joy Dronne, and Todd Alan and Robin Dronne, all of Freehold; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie Ann and John Wood of Plano, Texas, and Leslie He­len and Paul Sanzone of Freehold; a sister, Mary Jane Stiles, also of Freehold; and seven grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was cele­brated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.
