JACKSON — Several vehicles parked in neighborhoods off East Veterans Highway were targets for theft and burglary during an overnight crime spree last week, police Detective Ted Kucowski said.
Sometime between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 9 and 5:30 a.m. Oct. 10, an unknown person or persons entered a total of 20 vehicles at Dove Mill Crescent, Stacey Court, Reagan Drive, Jefferson Court, Sienna Drive and Mellisa Lee Drive, Kucowski said.
He said the vehicles were in several residential developments near North Hope Chapel and Butterfly roads.
According to Richard Megill, zoning officer, those streets are in the Picket Fences, Bridal Path and Presidential Preserve developments.
Some of the targeted vehicles were unlocked, said Kucowski, but others were forcibly entered. He said the perpetrators smashed the windows of some vehicles to gain entry. No one apparently heard the disturbance, he said.
The thieves stole items including a laptop computer and a portable GPS (Global Positioning System), which Kucowski said had an estimated value of $800. He said thieves also took a hunting bow, digital cameras, CDs and credit cards.
No witnesses have come forward to provide clues to the thieves’ identities, said Kucowski, but he did not rule out the possibility that someone in the area may have witnessed the incident.
"One can only hope so," the detective said.
