I am appalled and outraged at the conduct of the Democratic Old Bridge Township Council members at the council meeting that was held on Sept. 8.
During the early part of the meeting, Councilman Richard Greene inquired about the status of a Zoning Board approval of a large billboard that was allowed to be constructed on Route 9 north. Even though the council had previously supported an inquiry by the township attorney, the Democratic members did all they could to stop Councilman Greene from reading a prepared statement on the billboard issue.
Councilman Greene was told that he couldn’t proceed because he was using the issue to campaign for mayor, and he was told to stop speaking on the issue. When Greene refused to stop, the Democratic council members walked off the dais, the meeting was abruptly adjourned, and the television operator who was transmitting the program was instructed to stop transmission.
Actions like this are supposed to occur in communist countries, not here in the United States, especially not here in a suburban community such as Old Bridge. Are the residents of Old Bridge supposed to accept government run by backroom politics, where a handful of individuals control the destiny of the township?
I’ve always respected Councilman’s Greene’s leadership on township issues and resident concerns. I’m going to support his leadership and hope that the residents of Old Bridge join me in supporting him.
