W.B. senior robbed of $2,700

WOODBRIDGE — An 83-year-old Strawberry Hill Road resident’s house was allegedly burglarized by two suspects in what police consider a potential flim-flam

On Oct. 21, a woman allegedly came to the female victim’s front door, claiming she was an old neighbor who once lived three houses down. The victim invited her into her home, where she said they went into the dining room and discussed how the neighborhood had changed, according to police.

After about a half-hour, the suspect left.

Sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday, the victim discovered that money she had kept in two separate envelopes, containing a total of $2,700 in cash, which were inside an old garbage can in her closet, were missing, the report stated.

Although only one person came to her door, Capt. Charles Rowinski of the Woodbridge Police Department said it is likely that two suspects were involved.

"The woman who came to the door probably created a diversion, and then someone else slipped into the house unnoticed," he said.

He said such scams typically target senior citizens.

No arrests have been made in the case, Rowinski said.
