WOODBRIDGE — Multiple gunshots startled neighbors along Bridge Street and Woodbridge Avenue in Sewaren on Sunday.
At 6:08 a.m., police responded to calls from several neighbors reporting a series of gunshots followed by a vehicle accelerating away from the area. Witnesses reported seeing a small, bright red car driving north on Bridge Street immediately after the shots were fired.
At the scene, officers found six spent shell casings from a 9 mm gun spread over a segment of Bridge Avenue approximately 30 feet in length beginning at the intersection with Woodbridge Avenue.
Two vehicles in the driveway of a Woodbridge Avenue residence were damaged by several of the bullets. According to police, the vehicles were empty at the time.
Several bullets also struck a residence on Woodbridge Avenue which sustained damage to the
front-door mailbox, window shutter, and air conditioner. According to police, no one is believed to have been home at the time.
Detectives are investigating the
incident.
