DaVis extends thanks to Eatontown voters
(An open letter to the residents of Eatontown)
Thanks for your vote of confidence – first of all, I would like to sincerely thank all the residents of Eatontown who gave me their vote in this past election Nov. 4. What a great feeling it is to have people place their confidence in you because they believe in you, and what you stand for. It inspires you to do your very best, from the heart and soul, as gratitude for that confidence. I hope all of the officials elected Nov. 4 feel this way, and show us their stuff during their upcoming terms.
Second, I must apologize to you, our residents, for the shameless and craven behavior displayed by desperate candidates during the campaign. I am sure many of you were just as offended by the deceitful, misleading and malicious statements that polluted your newspapers and mailboxes. I know I was. Although it seems to happen every year, it is something we are never quite prepared for, and appears to grow even more disgraceful with each election season.
I personally know residents who felt invaded and violated by these attacks intruding into their home for all the family to witness. It was disappointing they could not run on their merits and platform, but instead had to resort to stoop to the kind of underhanded tactics and innuendoes which insult the intelligence of our residents in order to secure office. I want the residents of Eatontown to know I refused from the very beginning to participate in that type of a campaign, just for the sake of winning. Nevertheless, I want to apologize to you and your families for the negative campaigning you had to endures.
Finally, you know me — I can’t pretend to be somebody I’m not. I’m just the working guy you’ve seen around town for years. I don’t belong to a country club, I don’t eat fancy dinners or even drive a luxury car. I’m just a regular everyday guy who attends church regularly, volunteer when I can, and try to help when someone needs me. I try to live by the golden rules. I’ve worked hard all of my life. And, I love this town. And, I don’t want to get rich off anyone’s back – but then, you already know that, because you know me.
I can only offer my humble thanks to the residents of Eatontown for allowing me to serve them. Thanks for having come out to vote, no matter who you voted for. If you keep believing in the process, as I do, there is always hope for the future.
Charles "Chuck" DaVis
Councilman, Eatontown
