Mrs. Christie, 69, of the Clarksburg section of Millstone, died Nov. 15 at Capital Health System in Trenton. Born in Philadelphia, she was raised in Lindenwold and was a graduate of Philadelphia’s Hahnemann University Hospital School of Nursing. Before raising children, she spent the early part of her life working as a registered nurse. She later became a bookkeeper for Chris Industries, a family business located in Howell. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Laurel Springs Chapter No. 227. Surviving are her husband, David A. Christie; two sons, David A. Christie Jr. of Howell and Mark Christie of Eatontown; a daughter, Susan Christie of Howell; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent section of Manalapan, with the Rev. Dr. Hugh A. MacKenzie officiating. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Chrystal E. Jinks Kopp
Mrs. Kopp, 80, of Middletown died Nov. 12 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Castlehill, Maine, she resided in Middletown the past 60 years. She was the owner/operator of Salon 36, East Keansburg, for 20 years. She was a past member of Bayshore Community Church, Middletown, as well as a member of its board of trustees. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Peter Horbach of Tampa, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Joan Kopp of the Leonardo section of Middletown, and Larry and Beth Kopp of Ocean; two brothers and one sister-in-law, William and Mary Jinks of Churdan, Iowa, and Leland Jinks of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Mary Kopp of Middletown; and four grandchildren. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Entombment was at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
Theodore C. Sari
Mr. Sari, 87, of Tinton Falls died Oct. 27 at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Born in West Orange, he resided in Howell Township for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Finn Sari of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Carol Andrews of Middletown, and Gail Kennedy of Mifflintown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Wathington, 62, of Aberdeen died Nov. 5 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He was a shift superintendent at Bayway Oil Refinery, Linden, retiring in 1968. Mr. Wathington served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Mark’s AME Zion Church, Cliffwood section of Aberdeen. He was a member of the Mason Butler Lodge, Cliffwood. He enjoyed playing golf. He was predeceased by his father, Otis Wathington Sr.; and a brother, Alonzo Wathington. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Annie Evelyn Wathington; four sons, Kevin Parrish, Edward Parrish, Philip Wathington and Alfonzo Jason Moore; three daughters, Yvonne Parrish, Sonia Cross, Almeta Wathington and Melissa Wathington; his mother, Melissa Russell Wathington; four brothers, Otis Wathington Jr., Charles Wathington, William Wathington and Alphonso Wathington; four sisters, Lillian Parrish, Beverly Jackson, Mary Jane Johnson and Patricia McGowan; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Mark’s AME Zion Church, Cliffwood. Interment was at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements were by Bedle Funeral Home, Matawan.
Charles A. Valentino Sr.
Mr. Valentino, 79, of West Long Branch died Nov. 8 at home. He resided in Long Branch prior to moving to West Long Branch 40 years ago. He and his family owned and operated Valentino’s Market, Long Branch, which opened in 1925. He served with the U.S. Army under Gen. George S. Patton during World War II. His numerous awards included the Purple Heart for wounds received during the Battle of the Bulge, Distinguished Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and American Campaign Medal. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. A disabled American veteran, he was a member of the Long Branch Old Guard and a life member of the Long Branch Elks Lodge No. 742. He was a 53-year member and past president of the Long Branch Green and White Association, which awarded him a lifetime membership in 1988. Mr. Valentino is survived by his wife, Angela Rose Scarano Valentino; a son, Charles A. Valentino Jr. of Long Branch; a brother, Louis Valentino of West Long Branch; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch.
Madeleine T. Mirandon Wright
Mrs. Wright, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Nov. 10 at Avante Nursing Home, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul H. Wright in 1988. She is survived by two sons, Michael P. Wright of Cliffwood Beach, and Thomas R. Wright of Utah; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment was at the Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.
