Our politicians are incapable of reforming ethics. What we need is reformed politicians with ethics. A panel of three ethical people – who are not lawyers or politicians – should be appointed to set ethics policy and judge its effectiveness.
They could be helped by interviewing some of the political reporters who know how the system works.
Politicians are currently bribed by unions, corporations and "purchase a Congressman" (PACs). Elimination of this graft is easy, just let registered voters be the only ones who can make any legal political donation.
As a result: politicians would have to serve the voters, not the special interests; prices would fall because unions and corporations would no longer need to pay off greedy politicians; and it would greatly reduce the politicians’ ability to waste millions of dollars stuffing us with their election prattle.
