Dr. Kenneth N. Sable of New York City, formerly of Marlboro, has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been declared a diplomate of ABEM. An attending physician in the department of emergency medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y., he directs the department’s division of medical informatics, which combines the disciplines of medicine, business and information technology to support the health-care delivery process and promote measurable improvements in both quality of care and cost-effectiveness. A 1991 graduate of Marlboro High School, he earned a bachelor of science in engineering degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway. He is the son of Sharon and Edward Sable of Marlboro.

Weichert, Realtors will collect toys for distribution to financially and/or physically disadvantaged children within the local communities. Stanley Komito, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker’s Manalapan office, has been recognized as the company’s top sales associate for October for Monmouth County, according to Maureen Passerini, president of Coldwell Banker New York Metro.

The award is based on a combination of top sales and outstanding service to customers during the month.

Komito has been named the top associate in the Manalapan office for the past 11 years. In 2003, he led his office in pro-duction and service in April, June, July and October. He is a member of Coldwell Banker’s International President’s Elite as well as the 2002 New Jersey Association of Realtors Circle of Excellence at the gold level.

Don Nakagawa, C.E.C., of Manalapan received the gold medal in the chocolate category at the International Hotel/Motel Restaurant Show held recently at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Nakagawa’s exhibit was a two-headed dragon titled "Yin and Yang." The gold medal was awarded by The Salon of Culinary Art Society Philanthropique which has been in existence for 135 years. It is best known as the world’s largest freelance culinary arts exhibitor and features creations from master chefs, pastry chefs and culinarians from around the world.

In addition to winning the gold medal, Nakagawa received an award of distinction for best centerpiece in the show. Nakagawa is the executive chef for Suburban Golf Club in Union. This is the second gold medal he has received, and in March he won a bronze medal in Long Island, N.Y., for an international bread exhibit titled "Breads From Around the World." He is a member of the American Culinary Federation, Big Apple Chapter.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is searching for outstanding New Jersey small business owners and small business advocates who will be honored during National Small Business Week in May.

According to James A. Kocsi, S.B.A. New Jersey district director, nominations are being sought for New Jersey’s Small Business Person of the Year and for outstanding small business advocates in the areas of minorities, women, veterans, financial services, and home-based businesses. Nominations are also being sought for the Small Business Journalist of the Year award, Small Business Exporter of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, the Entrepreneurial Success Award — an entrepreneur who received assistance from the SBA and has developed his or her business into a large business, and the Family-Owned Business of the Year.

"Each year the president designates a week to honor and recognize the achievements of the nation’s 23 million small business owners," Kocsi said. "We are looking to individuals, local chambers of commerce, banks, trade associations and other community-based business organizations to submit nominations and sponsor candidates."

On May 7, the SBA will join with the state Chamber of Commerce in recognizing its Small Business Week award winners.

In a ceremony during the annual meeting of the American College of Dentists, held recently in San Francisco, Robert A. Hersh, D.D.S., was granted a fellowship for his leadership and contributions to dentistry. Founded in 1920, the ACD honors dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry. ACD Fellowships are invitation only, and fewer than 4 percent of dentists in the United States hold the title, according to a press release.

Dr. Hersh earned his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia. He completed a dental internship at Hackensack hospital and received post-doctoral training in periodontics and oral medicine at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dental Medicine. He serves as treasurer of the New Jersey Dental Association and is a member of the American Dental Association. He has served as president of the New Jersey Society of Periodontists, the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society, and the American Academy of Oral Medicine-New Jersey Section. He maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and implants in Freehold and is an attending dentist at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He is also a consultant to the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry. Dr. Hersh and his wife, Marcia, live in Freehold.

Weichert, Realtors’ Marlboro office announced that three sales associates were recognized for their industry achievements in the month of October.

Barbara Chasser led the office in listings. A member of Weichert’s Sales and Marketed clubs, Chasser qualified for the New Jersey Association of Realtors’ 2002 Circle of Excellence Sales Club at the silver level and earned membership in Weichert’s Ambassador’s Club, recognizing her in the top 2 percent of the company’s 10,000 sales associates.

Suzanne Kronenfeld led the office in sales and revenue units. Licensed in 1998, Kronenfeld previously worked for another local company. A longtime resident of Manalapan, she earned a degree

in art history from Brooklyn (N.Y.) College.

Shay Wong led the office in dollar volume. A member of Weichert’s Sales and Marketed clubs, Wong qualified for the New Jersey Association of Realtors’ 2002 Circle of Excellence Sales Club at the bronze level. Wong is a member of the New Jersey Distinguished Sales Club.

CentraState Medical Center, Free­hold Township, has installed new state-of-the-art digital, flat-screen televisions in all patient rooms, and now offers In­ternet service and movies on demand. Pa­tients can sign up for Internet service or order movies online from the televisions in their rooms. Patients who order Inter­net service will be provided wireless key­boards to navigate the Web for surfing or e-mail.

CentraState Healthcare System and the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey have partnered to provide en­hanced health care services and outreach programs to the community.

"Preparing to return home after a stay in the hospital, nursing home or other healthcare facility an be stressful for pa­tients and their families, who often have many questions about care in the home setting," said Maryann Roper, R.N., di­rector of the CentraState Health Aware­ness Center.

Combining CentraState and VNA re­sources will help make the transition to home care as smooth as possible, accord­ing to Lucille Richards, vice president of Home Care at VNA of Central Jersey.

Susskind & Almallah Eye Associ­ates P.A., with offices in Marlboro and Toms River, has expanded its office hours and physician staffing at the Marlboro office. Doctors Omar Almallah, M.D., Robert Rosenfeld, M.D., Christopher D’Alterio, O.D., Erik Mohaber, O.D., and Catherine Felicia, O.D., will be available to see patients during the week.

Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates also offers laser vision correction at its Toms River location, which is now equipped with a permanently affixed VISX S4 laser with eye tracking, as well as CustomVue Lasik and WaveFront-guided technology to treat subtle abnor­malities associated with the cornea.

The office has also announced that Dr. Almallah is now available for consulta­tions for laser vision correction and cataract surgery in the Marlboro office. Almallah was selected by the Consumers Research Council of America to be listed in the 2002-03 edition of the Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists.

Cold Stone Creamery, an ice cream franchise headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., will open its first store in Marlboro in December. The newest creamery will be in the Lowe’s Center, Routes 9 and 520.

Neither soft serve nor hard packed, Cold Stone ice cream is made fresh daily at each creamery, according to a press release. Guests can customize ice cream and frozen yogurt with one or more of a variety of mix-ins. Cold Stone Creamery has more than 500 stores operating in the Unites States and the Caribbean, with plans to estab­lish 1,000 stores by 2004. The company’s Web site is www.coldstonecreamery.com.

PostNet has announced the opening of its newest store, at 118 Route 9 north in Marlboro Plaza (Pathmark shopping center). Services include shipping via FedEx, UPS and U.S. Postal Service; pri­vate mailbox rentals with 24-hour access and parcel receiving service; worldwide fax service; photocopying; printing; lami­nating; notary; and Internet service. PostNet offers bulk-mailing setup for business, and customers can purchase stamps, office supplies and gift wrap ma­terials.

The store also is a Peanut Hotline col­lection center for plastic packaging loose fill — or "peanuts." PostNet will accept clean plastic peanuts from local residents and reuse them in their outgoing pack­ages. The Plastic Loose Fill Council, a na­tional trade association, maintains the Peanut Hotline, (800) 828-2214, and the Web site loosefillpackaging.com, which provides information on the use and reuse of plastic loose fill.

Store hours are Monday through Fri­day, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the holiday season, the store will have extended hours, and will also be open on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
