MARLBORO — The township is slated to have access to the airwaves next month, Public Information Officer Sue Levine reported.
Broadcasting on Cablevision of Monmouth’s channel 77, Marlboro will begin airing special presentations and informative programming, said Levine, who is managing the project.
As examples of programming that will be aired, Levine said the Board of Education and the Township Council will air awards presentations. As another example of a program the township may air, Levine cited a recent presentation by a consulting firm about the future of the 411-acre property that formerly housed the Marlboro State Psychiatric Hospital on Route 520.
There may also be programs about historical sites and parks in the community.
"Marlboro is rich in history … and many residents are not aware of the recreation resources in the town," Levine said.
Police officers will participate in public health and safety shows and there will be presentations to explain Marlboro’s recycling program, she added.
A scrolling bulletin board will convey information about meetings, events and important developments in the township, Levine added. Residents will be able to view up-to-date information about school closings and road closings, the public information officer said.
"The bulletin board can be updated remotely in the evening … This is a key, important component of the channel," Levine said.
The municipal channel will not include regular broadcasts of meetings of the Township Council, Board of Education, Zoning Board of Adjustment or Planning Board, she said.
Shows on the municipal channel will be entirely produced by community volunteers. Levine said many people have come forward to work on the station.
Any Marlboro resident over the age of 14 who would like to volunteer to work on the station can contact Sue Levine at (732) 536-0200, ext. 202.
In three years, Levine said, individuals will be able to present their own programming on the public channel after receiving television production training from the township.
