Seniors’ political savvy leads to their voting decisions

I have read with interest your editorial concerning the recent elections in Manalapan. Needless to say, the editorial was extremely critical of the voting patterns of Covered Bridge I and Covered Bridge II, suggesting their joint attitude is reflected in the phrase, "What have you done for us lately?"

My primary comment is, What’s wrong with that? Are you really suggesting we give our support and votes to those who do nothing for us? I think not, as senior citizens are still blessed with an acquired amount of political savvy.

I find it necessary to further inform you that our joint communities are not as catered to as you suggest. In fact, we are subject to double taxation vis-à-vis our costs for snow removal and road repairs — costs for which we only receive a pittance from the township while other homeowners receive full payment.

Our taxes support schools, recreation activities, etc., all of which we do not use. All of these activities we cheerfully help to support and vote to retain.

Finally, you need to be reminded that our joint communities still continue to fuel the economy of Manalapan with our patronage of various business establishments. One could accurately state that without Covered Bridge I and Covered Bridge II this area would revert to the "wonderful" chicken and egg farm days before our arrival.
