Junior Maureen McLaughlin, a Middletown South graduate, and freshman Emily Nealis, a Holmdel High School grad, helped lead the Muhlenberg College women’s soccer team to the Centennial Conference championship.
McLaughlin started all 22 games at sweeper, anchoring a defense that allowed only 17 goals in 22 games, including six in the final 14 matches. She also recorded an assist in the Mules’ 3-1 win against Ursinus in the semifinals of the CC playoffs. McLaughlin has career totals of two goals and three assists in three seasons.
Nealis played in nine games as a reserve midfielder. Muhlenberg finished the season with a record of 16-4-2 and its third CC championship in four years. The Mules advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 2-ranked Scranton.
The Aberdeen-Matawan Girls Softball League will hold its annual softball registration for ages 5-17 during the months of December and January. Registration will be held at the Matawan Municipal Community Center Dec. 10 and Jan. 14 and 21, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration will also be held on Dec. 13 and Jan. 10 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All first-time players need to submit a copy of their birth certificate.
The Bayshore Jammers U11 girls AAU basketball team seeks players born in 1992. Tryouts will be held in early January.
