In a ceremony at the mayor’s office, Lakewood Mayor, Marta Harrison, presented a $15,000 loan check to Teon L. Lee to assist him in launching his trucking business.

Lee, the proprietor of ATL Transport LLC, took advantage of an innovative Microloan program created by the town’s economic development agency to assist start-up businesses in Lakewood. Microloans are small business loans of between five and fifteen thousand dollars, which help small companies get off the ground. Teon originally approached Doug Doyle, Deputy Director of the Lakewood Development Corporation (LDC), with his idea. Doyle encouraged him to get in touch with Lakewood Community Services Corporation (LCSC) for help developing and presenting a loan application.

The LCSC, headed by Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg, worked closely with Teon to help him develop his business plan and put together a Microloan application. The LCSC is a nonprofit community organization created by members of Lakewood’s Orthodox Jewish Community to assist all residents of Lakewood with a broad spectrum of community services, including economic development and job placement. The LCSC provides extensive assistance to entrepreneurs who are seeking funds to start up or expand their businesses.
