Registration is being accepted for the Old Bridge winter ice hockey youth instructional program, sponsored by the township Department of Parks, Recreation & Social Services. The program will be held Sunday evenings, beginning Jan. 4, at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. Youngsters will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey, including stick handling, passing and shooting. Participants are required to wear full equipment. The sessions are broken into two age groups: 5-8 years old and 9-13. The 5-8 group runs from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the older group runs from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $226 for Old Bridge residents and $276 for nonresidents. The Old Bridge Raptors, a U11 boys travel soccer team, took first place in the Montgomery Thanksgiving Day Tournament. The Raptors played four games, going 4-0, scoring 22 goals and allowing zero goals against. The Raptors beat Delaware Valley, 3-0, Elizabeth Tranquinas, 9-0, Ajax, 3-0, and Montgomery Strikers, 7-0. The whole team played great with numerous players contributing on offense scoring/assisting and passing, while the defense had stopped everything coming toward them. The Raptors are: Alex Barnhard, Sean Breen, Danielle Colaprico, Yousef ElHussieni, John Fowler, Kelly Hansen, Anthony Jichetti, Billy Majeski, Keith Kraus, Rich Loeffler, Doug Ruby, Zachery Ryan, Dan Scalgione, Daniel Scott and Mike Shannon. The Raptors are coached by Tim Ryan, Jim Colaprico and Jay Kraus. The Raptors also competed in the Pre-MAPS league this season, finishing 4-4-2. They took sixth place competing against the top 13 teams in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Old Bridge Little League will hold registration at the clubhouse on Route 516 Friday from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $45 for Cubs, and $55 for all other individual players ($65 for families). Members of the Middlesex Gymnastics Academy’s USAG girls team captured numerous honors at the Rutgers Classic Invitational, held Nov. 21-23 at Rutgers University. Teams from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania competed in the three-day event.

Middlesex Gymnastics Level 4 girls won the first-place team trophy with two girls — Gabby Dutra-Clark, 8, of Metuchen, and Alyson Dohn, 9, of North Brunswick — taking first place all-around honors in their age groups. The Level 5 girls from Middlesex Gymnastics placed second in the team standings with one girl — Asya Cureton, 9, of Piscataway — finishing first in her age group. Kaitlyn Loeffler, 11, of East Brunswick placed second in the AA in Level 7, while wining two first-place awards in individual events.

Dutra-Clark took the all-around title after winning the vault (9.75), uneven bars (9.225) and floor exercise (9.3), while finishing second on the beam (9.1). Meanwhile, Dohn won her AA title by taking first on the beam (9.45), third on the vault (9.4) and floor (9.0), and fourth on the bars (8.8).

Nicole Razzano, of East Brunswick, took third in the Level 4 all-around with a score of 35.775 after finishing first on the beam (9.125) and second on the bars (8.9) and floor (8.75) in the 8-year-old group.

Shelby Vertes, of Piscataway, was fifth in the AA (35.05) with a second on the beam (8.8) and third on the bars (8.85) in the 9-year-old group.

In Level 5 competition, Caitlin Selva, 8, of East Brunswick, finished sixth in the AA with a second-place finish on the floor (9.025). In the 9-year-old age group, Cureton was first in the AA (36.65) while taking individual first-place honors on the floor (9.475) and vault (9.825).

Breanna McGowan, Milltown, was sixth in the AA with fourth-place finishes in both the vault and beam. Brianne Strahm, also of Milltown, finished 14th in the AA with a ninth on the beam.

In the 10-year-old group, Meghan Larkin, of South River, finished second in the AA (37.25), while taking first on the beam (9.45) and floor (9.5). Melody Smith, of South Amboy, came in fifth in the AA with a second on the floor (9.35) and third on the bars (9.25). Amoi Green, of Piscataway, placed ninth in the AA with an eighth on the vault. Kristen McMullen, Milltown, finished 13th in the AA with a third-place finish on the beam (9.2) and a fifth on the floor.

In Level 7 competition, Loeffler placed second in the AA (36.4) while taking first on the vault (9.55) and floor (8.95) in the 11-year-old age group.

ISA of New Jersey is looking for umpires for its 2004 softball programs. Its Central Jersey clinic begins in January. ASA, NSA, and Federation umpires are welcome. Experience not necessary. For more information call (732) 906-8263.

The Sayrewoods South Little League will hold registration on Dec. 5 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the SWSLL clubhouse on Fox Street (off Cindy Street). The fee is $65 for one child, $85 for two or more children, and $50 for t-ball (age 5). A work bond of $100 is due at registration. Upon completion of work hours, money will be promptly returned. The 2004 season includes all boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 1987, and July 31, 1999. A copy of his/her birth certificate is required at registration for all new players and will be retained for future reference. Cheesequake Baseball and Softball, Old Bridge, will hold registration for the 2004 season on Dec. 6 and 7, and Jan. 24. Registration times are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cheesequake fields, Route 9 north and Schulmeister Road, Old Bridge. Please bring two checks (separate checks are needed for registration fee and work bond).

The U15 Old Bridge Roadrunners girls travel soccer team is looking for several experienced travel players to fill its roster for the spring 2004 season. The team will be playing in MOSA National 1 or National 2. The Roadrunners will card the team this summer so it can play in tournaments in either the fall or winter.
