Boy Scout Troop 104 from Jackson went camping at Belleplain State Forest the weekend of Nov. 8. Some of the scout skills that were worked on included knife and ax safety and fire safety. Scouting is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award or have completed the fifth grade, or who are 11 through 17 years old. Anyone interested in the troop is welcome to attend meetings, which are held Mondays at 7:30 at the Cassville Volunteer Fire Company on Miller Road in Jackson.

Lakewood’s annual letter

to Santa program starts

The Lakewood Community School, in cooperation with the Lakewood High School PALS (Pupil Assisted Learning Services) students is sponsoring the "Annual Letter to Santa" program. All Lakewood children are encouraged to mail their letters to Santa Claus, c/o 655 Princeton Ave., Lakewood 08701. The child’s name and return address must be included in each letter. Children will receive personal letters from Santa at their homes. Letters must be received by Dec. 13. Details: (732) 905-3685.

Howell Township is presently accepting letters to Santa postmarked through Dec. 12. As part of an annual event, Howell recreation employees will personally answer all letters addressed to Santa’s Workshop, c/o Howell Recreation, P.O. Box 580 Preventorium Road, Howell 07731. Jackson PBA holds

annual food, toy drive

The Jackson Township Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 168 has begun its Fourth Annual Food and Toy Drive for underprivileged Jackson families. All food and toys will be turned over to the Jackson Women of Today who run the Jackson Branch of the Food Banks of Ocean and Monmouth Counties. The Jackson Women of Today are currently helping over 70 Jackson Families.

For the second year in a row, in cooperation with the Jackson ShopRite, the Jackson PBA will be providing complete Thanksgiving dinners to 10 Jackson families selected by the Jackson Women of Today. The meals will be paid for by a collection from the general membership of the Jackson PBA combined with a donation from the Jackson ShopRite.

Nonperishable food items and new, unwrapped toys in their original packaging will be accepted at the following locations: Jackson Police Headquarters, 102 Jackson Dr.; and Jackson municipal building, 95 West Veteran’s Highway; Powerhouse Gym at the Brook Plaza, New Prospect Road; ShopRite,; Foodtown and Stop and Shop, all on County Line Road in Jackson. The Powerhouse Gym will give a two-week membership to their facility to all non-gym members who donate a nonperishable food or toy at their gym.
