named AP scholars
Lakewood students
named AP scholars
Five students at Lakewood High School have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) program exams. Each of the students completed three or more AP examinations. The students took these exams in May 2003 after completing college-level courses at their high schools. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year-long courses and exams (or their equivalent semester-long courses and exams). More than 1,400 institutions of higher learning award a full year’s college credit to students who present a qualifying grade on these exams. The students are Rachel Baer, Traci Berkman, Sara Colucci, Devorah Foresta and Kevin Kiernan.
Kiwanis Club presents
pupils with dictionaries
The Kiwanis Club of Leisure Village in Lakewood once again has donated dictionaries to all third-graders in the Lakewood public schools. As the club’s way of increasing child literacy, Barney Zarro of the Kiwanis presented student dictionaries to Clifton Avenue School third-graders. Principal Diane Steinmetz accepted the gift on behalf of all 400 Lakewood third-graders at a ceremony that was held at the school Nov. 19. This annual gift is of great importance to Lakewood students, many of whom would not be able to secure their dictionary otherwise, according to a press release from the school district, which said it is proud of its association with the Leisure Village Kiwanians.
