A 74-year-old Ringoes woman was hospitalized with chest and leg injuries after her car allegedly ran a red light and hit a another vehicle at the intersection of Route 518 and Harbourton-Rocktown Road, township police said Wednesday.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Douglas Nice, 40, of Sellersville, Pa., was driving eastbound on Route 518 when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Margarete Whitehead of Ringoes, who was driving southbound on Harbourton-Rocktown Road, police said.
Witnesses said Ms. Whitehead drove through a red light, police said. She was charged with disregarding a traffic signal by township Patrolman Bill Springer.
Mr. Nice declined medical treatment.
Ms. Whitehead sustained chest and leg injuries. She was extricated from her vehicle by the Hopewell Fire Department, then taken to Capital Health System, Fuld Campus in Trenton. A doctor described her condition as "serious" when she was admitted to the hospital, Capt. Meyer said, adding that her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Also responding to the accident were the Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit, Hopewell Valley Emergency Service Unit and Mercer County paramedics
