Students at the Dorothy B. Hersh High School in Tinton Falls played Santa Claus to U.S. service men and women serving overseas this holiday season. Armed with a list provided by the U.S. Coast Guard, students collected gifts for members of the crew of the Coast Guard ship USS Adak. Students distributed flyers to families and employees of the Arc of Monmouth, which operates the high school. The gifts were delivered to a drop-off point in West Long Branch in early December. In January, another box of gifts will be shipped. Dorothy B. Hersh High School is a private school for students with developmental disabilities ages 14-21. A major focus of the school is transition to adult life and participation in the community, and students participate in volunteer and paid work experiences at locations such as Fort Monmouth Communications and Electronics Command, Naval Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, and local businesses.
