Joseph M. Ettore of Freehold Township was honored recently for his many years of service to Monmouth County. The event took place at an employees awards luncheon sponsored by the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders. Ettore is the assistant county engineer and has been employed by the Monmouth County Engineering Department for 20 years. Freeholder Amy Handlin presented Ettore with his service pin.

Earle Asphalt Co., Farmingdale, has received the 2003 National Asphalt Pavement Association Quality in Construction Award for work the company performed on Route 138 in Wall Township. The company also received a Diamond Achievement Award. This is Earle Asphalt Co.’s seventh national award in eight years. NAPA awards approximately 200 of these awards each year nationally.

The Quality in Construction Award recognizes selected projects throughout the country that exemplify a commitment to quality in construction. Many areas are examined, including a 50-page application that must be completed.

The Diamond Achievement Commendation for Excellence in Hot Mix Asphalt Plant/Site Operations Award is designed to recognize hot mix asphalt production facilities that operate in an exemplary manner. The award is earned through a self-assessment process, which is open to all in the industry. Nominations are verified by members of the local community and are evaluated by a nationally known independent assessment firm.

Brian M. Sagrestano, J.D., of Freehold, has been awarded the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation. Sagrestano is director of gift planning for Meridian Health Affiliated Foundations.

Individuals granted the CFRE credential have met a series of standards set by CFRE International, including tenure in the profession, education, professional achievements and a commitment to service to not-for-profit organizations, and have agreed to uphold accountability standards and the Donor Bill of Rights. Additionally, candidates must pass a written examination testing the knowledge, skills and abilities required of a fund-raising executive.

CFRE International is an independent organization whose sole mission is dedicated to the certification of fund-raising executives by setting standards in philanthropy. Its board of directors is made up of certified individuals from various types of fund-raising settings and also includes members of the public representing the interests of donors. Fourteen professional associations participate with CFRE.

Meridian Health is a family of nonprofit health care organizations comprised of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune; Ocean Medical Center, Brick; Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank; and partner companies that include home care agencies, long-term and assisted living communities, ambulatory care, ambulance services, and occupational health, located throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Sam’s Club, Freehold Township, will host a networking event designed for small business office professionals. Current and prospective small-business owners are invited to attend the event Jan. 21, 7-10 a.m., at Sam’s Club, 100 Trotters Way.

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet club managers, associates and professional colleagues; take home relevant industry information and product samples; browse through merchandise selections relevant to their individual businesses; and compare current invoices to a Sam’s Club invoice of the same or similar products for savings purposes. Andrew S. Turkish of Marlboro was recently named a partner at the national law firm of Rivkin Radler LLP. Turkish is a resident partner at Rivkin Radler’s Summit office. The firm also has offices in Manhattan and Uniondale, N.Y., and Santa Rosa, Calif.

Turkish concentrates his practice in litigation, specializing in wrongful death matters, product liability, construction litigation, professional malpractice defense, and premises liability defense. He also is an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School, where he teaches legal research and writing. He is the co-author of a book titled "A Practice Guide to Wrongful Death Actions."

Linda Rae Kernis, IIDA and Allied Member ASID, of Linda Rae Kernis Interior Designs Inc., Freehold, presented "Avoiding Decorating Mistakes: Don’t Just Like It, Love It" at the Jan. 8 meeting of the Newcomers/Encore Club of Colts Neck and Holmdel. Kernis has been a resident of Freehold Township for 31 years and has been a freelance interior designer for 27 years, specializing in both residential and commercial design. Some of her works include the Technical Education Center for Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the newly built 40,000-square-foot Schroth School.

Century 21 Mack-Morris Iris Lurie, Marlboro, has announced its top sales associates for the fourth quarter of 2003. Four tenants have made multi-year lease commitments at Manalapan Cor­porate Plaza, a new 86,750-square-foot office building at 195 Route 9 south in Manalapan. The announcement was made by Joseph Sarno of Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey Inc.

Taylor 9 South Associates LLC, a partnership that includes Dalton Proper­ties and New York Giants running back Ron Dayne, completed construction of the two-story building on a speculative basis in August.

Countrywide Home Mortgage, a resi­dential mortgage producer and a division of Countrywide Financial, has leased 6,700 square feet on the first floor of the building. The firm relocated its area sales office to the building from another local property.

World Savings, a full-service consumer financial services company, has opened a new office in the building. The firm leased 4,600 square feet on the building’s second floor.

Anslow & Jaclyn LLP, which provides legal services to clients in the areas of general corporate, securities, real estate, trusts and estates, and sports and enter­tainment law, leased 4,500 square feet on the second floor. The firm relocated its headquarters to the property from Free­hold.

Picture Perfect, a newly formed com­pany, has established its headquarters at Manalapan Corporate Plaza, leasing 4,100 square feet on the second floor. The firm manufactures cosmetic, medical and oral health care products for the con­sumer market.

Designed by Saizan, Schneider & Winkler Architects LLC of Freehold, the building features a 4,000-square-foot atrium lobby with a central fountain, glass elevators and marble floors. Units at the property are divisible to approxi­mately 2,800 square feet.

James R. Marhold of Manalapan has been named executive director of the New Jersey Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D), Princeton. Marhold brings more than 10 years of nonprofit management experience to RFB&D, in­cluding positions as director of mental health services for Volunteers of America of Greater New York and director of resi­dential services for Hudson Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC). He holds a bachelor of arts from Duquesne Univer­sity, a master of arts in govern­ment/nonprofit administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is pursuing his doctorate in business admin­istration from North Central University.

RFB&D, a Princeton-based nonprofit, is an educational library for students who cannot read standard print effectively be­cause of a disability, according to a press release. Founded in 1948, RFB&D serves more than 117,000 students, from kindergarten to graduate school and be­yond, with its library of 93,000 recorded textbooks. More than two-thirds of RFB&D’s members have learning disabil­ities, such as dyslexia.

Marhold will oversee the operations of RFB&D’s New Jersey Unit, which is home to one of 31 recording studios throughout the nation that records mate­rial distributed by the national library. Nearly 500 volunteers record texts, pro­vide audio production support and assist with the unit’s fund-raising efforts. Vol­unteers also help the unit provide educa­tional outreach services to schools throughout the state. More than 5,000 New Jersey students are RFB&D mem­bers.

Sandler Sales Institute, Freehold Township, will present a seminar titled "2004: A New Year, a New Beginning — Is Your Sales Force Capable of Executing Your Strategy?" Two local entrepreneurs attended a seminar featuring President George W. Bush. Suzanne Pease of Ampersand Graphics, Marlboro, president of the Na­tional Association of Women Business Owners; and Melinda Salzer of Advanced Information Services Inc., Marlboro, pres­ident of the Central Jersey Chapter of NAWBO, were invited to join a delegation of 25 women business owners as Presi­dent George W. Bush discussed the con­tributions of women entrepreneurs and small business in the U.S. economy. The program was broadcast live on several news stations. Also in attendance were Commerce Secretary Don Evans, Hector Baretto, administrator of U.S. Small Business Administration, and other dig­nitaries.

Michelle Owens of Marlboro has been appointed to district leader at Quick Chek food stores. Owens began her career at Quick Chek in 1996 as an assistant manager. Since that time, she has had several positions, including assistant store leader, store leader, general store leader and regional trainer. In her new position, she will be responsible for seven stores in Somerset and Middlesex coun­ties. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology.

The New Jersey Development Au­thority for Small Businesses, Minori­ties’ and Women’s Enterprises has announced the spring class schedule and registration for its Entrepreneurial Training Institute (ETI). ETI is a busi­ness training program that has gradu­ated nearly 900 New Jersey en­trepreneurs since 1992.

The eight-week course is designed to help new and existing entrepreneurs in New Jersey prepare a business plan, learn how to manage the day-to-day op­erations of a business, and understand the ins and outs of obtaining financing. Classes are located in 11 class locations throughout the state, including Lake­wood, Trenton and North Brunswick. Classes are held weekly from 6-9 p.m.

Participants must have a high school diploma or GED certificate, attend at least six of the eight sessions, complete all homework assignments, complete a business plan, and present their business plan to a panel of business professionals for feedback.

Sean P. Mulligan of Freehold has been appointed to the Supervisory Com­mittee of Mon-Oc Federal Credit Union. Mulligan is a member of the Hill Wallack Editorial Board for the firm newsletter and is assistant council to the New Jersey American Institute of Architects. From 1995 until 1998, he was an associate with Harwood Lloyd Law Office, Hackensack. He is a graduate of City University of New York Law School at Queens College, Flushing, N.Y., and holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and classical stud­ies from Denison University, Granville, Ohio.

The major responsibilities of the Su­pervisory Committee are to make an au­dit at least annually and to verify the ac­counts of the members with the records of the financial officer at least once every two years. Mon-Oc Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that serves members throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.
