The Life Center Academy girls’ varsity basketball team had no trouble defeating Saint Mary’s Hall, 46-36, on the road last Friday, even though the game had originally been scheduled for Tuesday.
Sarah Cintron, who has been scoring as often as Samantha Weer the past couple of weeks, poured in a game-high 11 points. Stephanie Reitzel netted nine points while Weer and Kaitlyn Antolic each chipped in with eight. April Hatcher (four points), Jackie Steffen (two points), Corin Wells (two points) and Ashley Nyul (two points) also tallied for the winners. Life Center Academy played a brilliant 13-4 first quarter then it nursed its lead the rest of the way.
The last few years, LCA has liked to add Burlington City to its non-league schedule. Unfortunately for the Warriors, this year’s Blue Devils squad is one of the finest in years. Consequently, they defeated the Warriors 73-28 on Saturday at Florence. Nonetheless Steffen (eight points), Weer (seven points), Ashley Birney (six points), April Hatcher (one point) and Melissa Sabatino (one point) all scored for LCA in the contest.
To its credit, Life Center Academy bounced back on Tuesday with a quality 36-30 home victory over Moorestown Friends.
"We were down in the first half (Moorestown Friends held a 20-12 lead at intermission), but we came around," said LCA team statistician Maryanne Brown. "It was a good win. We only played six players. Usually, LCA will go at least nine or 10 players deep, but LCA head coach Billy Rhoades knew he had a tough fight on his hands so he went to a shorter rotation."
Cintron led the way with 16 points, while Weer added nine. Hatcher (six points) and Steffen (five points) were Life Center Academy’s only other scorers.
LCA (12-7) is scheduled to host Pine Forge Academy today (Thursday) and Calvary Christian tomorrow (Friday). On Tuesday, LCA is scheduled at Philadelphia International.
