WEST AMWELL — South Hunterdon Regional High School will have a new roof in place by July if all goes as planned, according to school board president David Moraski.
The school board anticipates awarding the contract during its meeting scheduled for Feb. 19, and construction could begin May 1, Mr. Moraski said.
The process of replacing the roof was delayed when the first round of bids all came in over budget in September. Members of the board authorized the second round of bids the following month. They are scheduled to be opened Feb. 17.
The lowest bid in the first round of bidding in September came in at $64,000 more than the project’s estimated total cost of $620,000. The board submitted a revised cost estimate of $722,385 to the state Department of Education.
The state Department of Education has said South Hunterdon is eligible for a grant in the amount of $288,954, which would be applied to the revised cost.
When the lower estimated total of $620,000 was in place, the school district would have been eligible for a grant in the amount of $247,964.
The school district will be responsible for $433,431.
