Police responded to Kilmer Drive on a report of a car fire at 7:11 a.m., Jan. 16.
The 1996 Nissan Sentra was completely engulfed in bright orange flames when police arrived. The owner said her boyfriend had gone outside at about 6:50 a.m. to warm up the car, then returned inside. The owner said she didn’t know the car was in flames until Hillsborough Fire companies 37 and 38 arrived to put out the fire.
The fire is believed to have started in the engine area, police said. The vehicle, valued at $4,000, was completely destroyed.
According to the owner, the power windows had not been working prior to the fire and that when the window buttons were pressed, smoke would come out.
No other vehicles in the surrounding area were damaged, and no injuries were reported .
