Elizabeth Cook
Longtime Princeton resident
Elizabeth Hance Hewson Starkey Cook of Princeton died at home Monday. She was 88.
Born in Red Bank, she moved to her home on The Great Road in Princeton Township in 1948. She maintained long-term residences in Gulfstream, Fla., and Bay Head.
She was a charter member of Bedens Brook Country Club and was a member of the Nassau Club, Present Day Club, Gulfstream Golf Club, Gulf Stream Bath & Tennis Club, the Little Club and Bay Head Yacht Club.
She was the wife of the late Austin C. Starkey, William B. Hewson and George R. Cook, all Princeton University graduates. She was involved in many of their alumni activities.
Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Borden L. Hance, mother of the late Ross K. Hewson, she is survived by sons Austin C. Starkey Jr. of Pennington, Samuel B. Starkey of Princeton and William B. Hewson Jr. of Darien, Conn.; stepdaughters Connie Moore of Philadelphia and Allison Elston of Oklahoma and their spouses; brother Borden L. Hance of Red Bank and his children; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton.
Burial will be private.

Bettie P. Myers
Active Princeton volunteer
ARLINGTON, Va. Bettie Peddie Myers died Jan. 31 of heart failure at Virginia Hospital Center. She was 80.
Born in Houston, she was a Princeton resident for 20 years and a Westport, Conn., resident for 14 years before moving to the Sunrise retirement facility in Arlington.
In Princeton, she was a Girl Scout leader and ladies auxiliary volunteer at University Medical Center at Princeton.
She was a member of The Present Day Club and the Princeton Historical Society.
She was a founding member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, where she headed the Alter Guild.
In Westport, Mrs. Myers was a member of the Southport Women’s Club, the Antiquarian Society and Trinity Episcopal Church.
She graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas and married her husband, an Army Air Corps pilot, during World War II.
Wife of the late L. Hunt Myers, who died in 1985, she is survived by daughter Jessica Myers Carlin of Glen Ridge; son J. Rodman Myers of Washington, D.C.; brother Rodman S. Peddie of Houston; and sister Julie Gillespie of Galveston, Texas.
Services were held at Christ Church in the Georgetown section of Washington.
Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.

Hans K. Sander
Architect and planner
Hans K. Sander died Monday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 79.
Born in Germany, he immigrated to the United States in 1941 and was a longtime Princeton resident.
Mr. Sander was an architect and planner and served over 25 years on the Princeton Regional Planning Board and its predecessor Princeton Township Planning Board.
He attended Institut Montana in Switzerland and after coming to the United States attended Columbia University. He received a master’s degree in architecture from Princeton University in 1955.
Mr. Sander’s professional career included the partnership Walker, Sander, Ford and Kerr Architects of Princeton, and association with the St. Louis-based firm Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum. His later work was pursued in sole proprietorship as Sander Associates in Princeton.
Highlights of his work include Lenox headquarters on Princeton Pike in Lawrence and work with Rutgers and Princeton universities.
Mr. Sander served as chairman of the Princeton Regional Planning Board during much of his board service. His efforts helped produce the Princeton Master Plan, the open-space plan and the zoning ordinance.
His work with the American Institute of Architects Subcommittee on Design was rewarded with his election as an AIA fellow in 1976.
Mr. Sander, or "H.K." as he was known, is survived by his dear friend and longtime partner, Yvonne F. Bleiman; daughter Leslie H. Sander of Wilmington, Del.; son Whitney F. Sander of Los Angeles; and sister Hilda Winterer of Northampton, Mass.
