Ruth Kastelansky, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 31, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in New York City, she was formerly of New Brunswick and North Brunswick before moving to Monroe 11 years ago. She was employed as a teacher at New Brunswick High School where she taught history and also was a senior class advisor for 40 years, retiring from the high school in 1976. She graduated from Douglas College in New Brunswick. She was a member of the National Education Association, Hadassah, and the Rossmoor Jewish Congregation. In 2001, she was one of the recipients of the Women of Valor Award given by the Jewish Federation of Middlesex. She also volunteered her time at the Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged, Somerset. Ruth enjoyed playing bridge and canasta in her free time.
She is survived by her cousins, Abe Rosen, Seymour Rosen, Daniel Post, Gene Rosen and Diane Rosen.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 2, at noon at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 101 N. Gaston Ave., Somerville, under the direction of Rabbi Ron Isaacs. Interment followed in Washington Cemetery, Deans, N.J.
