Novo Nordisk gives $50,000 for preserve sign, gate

PLAINSBORO — A pharmaceutical company has donated $50,000 to pay for the entrance gate and sign at the Plainsboro Preserve Nature & Education Center.
Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Denmark-based company with offices in Plainsboro, recently presented the check to township officials. The money will foot the bill for a main sign and gated entranceway featuring a leaf at the Scotts Corner Road center.
"Our business philosophy includes strongly supporting health, safety and environmental projects around the world, and we’re thrilled to be able to do so right here in Plainsboro," said Martin Soeters, president of Novo Nordisk.
The preserve — opened last summer — is situated on more than 1,000 acres of natural habitat for plants, animals and migratory birds. The preserve also includes a 50-acre lake and a 6,500-square-foot building that houses classrooms and offices.
The center is operated by the NJ Audubon Society. The preserve and center were funded by nearly $1.3 million in private donations, along with special state and federal grants.
The design work for the sign and gate by The Hillier Group of West Windsor was paid for by the Firmenich Corp., a fragrance and flavor company with offices in Plainsboro.
Township Committeeman Michael Weaver said the sign and gate should be completed this summer.
