Several Monmouth County 4-H’ers received Pomona Grange awards for their achievements.
The Pomona Grange Certificate of Merit is given to 4-H’ers who have completed at least two years of outstanding 4-H work and have shown progressive achievement in citizenship.
The Pomona Grange Advanced Awards are granted to 4-H’ers who have demonstrated continued growth in leadership and citizenship activities and have broadened their educational, social and cultural horizons.
Jake Krzyzanowski and Jessica Herring of Freehold received special recognition as Pomona Grange Advanced Award designees. Each had been Pomona Grange Certificate of Merit recipients earlier in their careers..

The award winners were recommended for Pomona Grange recognition by their club leaders. The Pomona Grange of Monmouth County initiated these awards in the 1950s to encourage youth citizenship, and awards have been given every year since that time. Anne Willuweit of the Pomona Grange and Ellen Williams, 4-H agent, were this year’s awards co-chairs.

Middletown Elks ‘Charity Ball’ March 6
Middletown Elks Lodge No. 2179 will sponsor its annual "Charity Ball" March 6 at the Lakeside Manor, Route 36, Hazlet. Proceeds will benefit the lodge’s Handicapped Children Committee. Tickets are $50 per person.
The committee has chosen two brothers, ages 13 and 11, from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, as the "poster children" for 2004. The children, both students at Bayshore School, will receive several gifts as well as accolades from the Elks and its Ladies Auxiliary.

Volunteers sought for Liberty Science Center
Liberty Science Center, Jersey City, is seeking volunteers. Individuals are required to commit to a five-hour shift one day per week or every other weekend. Volunteers are needed in the departments of sales, accounting, guest services, and working with animals.
Volunteers receive discounts at the science center store and Laser Lights Café, access to the volunteer lounge, and a comprehensive year-round recognition program.
