HOWELL — The board of trustees, officers and members of the Farming-dale-Howell First Aid Squad announced that members Robert Gude and Joseph Johnson have become certified Emer-gency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) by the state Department of Health.
In order to achieve this certification they had to attend training classes at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, totaling 110 hours of both written and hands-on training. In addition to their regular classroom work, they also served 10 hours each in a hospital emergency room. They also had to show competency in a number of medical intervention techniques.
Gude has been a member of the Farmingdale-Howell First Aid Squad since August 2003. He had previously been a member of the Westfield Rescue Squad in Westfield from 1985-91. He is a financial consultant with Smith Barney in New Brunswick and resides in Howell with his family.
Johnson has been a member of the Farmingdale-Howell First Aid Squad since 1997. In addition to his squad membership, Johnson is a member of the Adelphia Fire Company and the Howell Office of Emergency Management. He is employed with Envirotech Services Corp. and lives in Farmingdale with his wife.
