JAMESBURG — Jamesburg voters elected Dina Walker to another term on the Board of Fire Commissioners and approved the fire district’s 2004 budget of more than $380,000.
A total of 32 voters — 14 fewer than last year’s turnout of 46 — participated in Saturday’s election at the Jamesburg Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Firehouse on West Railroad Avenue. Jamesburg has 2,729 registered voters.
Ms. Walker, an incumbent, was the only candidate for the Board of Fire Commissioners on the printed ballot.
She received 30 votes. Two write-in votes were cast.
A fire district budget of $381,435, with $329,000 to come from taxation, was passed, 21-11.
The new budget added 1 cent to the fire tax rate, going from 13 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to 14 cents.
Under the adopted fire district 2004 budget, the owner of a house assessed at the borough average of $123,000 would pay about $172 in annual fire taxes, $12 more than last year.
