Has the world gone crazy, or is it me? We have to "press 1" for English. We need warning labels on hot coffee. We pay a plumber to fix our toilet, but won’t pay a doctor to fix our body because he’s not in our plan. These days, nothing surprises me. Last night was the exception.
The super bowl half-time show was despicable. The lineup should have tipped me off — Nelly and P. Diddy. I guess no one was worried about a drive-by since it would have been difficult to get a car on the field. Justin and Janet are talented. I’ll admit I like their music. So, why did they have to be so crude?
I expected more. This wasn’t MTV. And, I don’t believe for one second that CBS was unaware of what was going to happen — shock TV is good for business. CBS stock was up today.
On a daily basis, our children are inundated with immoral behavior and sexual images. The No. 1 hit of last year was sung by an ex-crack-dealing gangster. The song glorified pimping, and half the lyrics were bleeped out. His mother must be so proud.
Four-letter words are commonplace today. But don’t you dare say that three letter word, God. That is considered offensive. Family shows just don’t exist any more. ABC was touting its new "TGIF" lineup. Well, the plot of the show we watched consisted of a grandmother who thought she was going through the change, but found out she really had the clap.
This is family hour.
Every time you change the channel or turn a page in a magazine, there is someone — usually a woman — half naked. And that is acceptable. Nothing is personal or private anymore. On a fifth-grade health trip, the boys and girls had to all say together "penis, penis, penis" because this would alleviate any embarrassment they felt while the teacher was lecturing. Is it necessary for 11-year-olds to feel comfortable saying penis around each other? I don’t think so.
The messages our children are getting from society contradict what we are teaching them.
It is very frustrating. When will the media stop undermining the hard work of parents? Don’t these executives have children too? Don’t they get it? Or, is it me?
