Big tears burst out of my son’s eyes when I told him of the school reorganization. I panicked and I wanted to stop his crying, but there was little I could do.
We are both heartbroken! "School reorganization is so great," said the Board of Education. How did they come to that conclusion when the majority of us parents are against the idea (45 percent vs. 43 percent)?
Somehow the Board of Education seems to be overlooking that we are the parents of the children in the education system.
If they were to reorganize, they had better have the support of the majority on their side; this is not the case from what I understand.
Have the folks at the board forgotten that we live in a democratic society, where we go by the majority’s decision?
As the first generation of new immigrants, I so strongly believe in American democratic lifestyle. I also strongly believe that the future of our children should come first and that we have to look out for the best interest for our kids.
The board should value our parents’ opinions when it comes to the well-being of our children, for we are raising them and know them best.
From our childrens’ reaction, the reorganizing is a distress on our children and we as parents sense that.
Any parent knows that kids don’t like changes. Now, they have to say goodbye to their loves.
They have to try to adjust to the new environment, new teachers, new friends, etc.
If life isn’t hard enough for us, we have to put all these on our kids.
Dear Board of Education members, you take away the happiness from our kids!
I have been a Matawan resident since 1988 and have been contributing to Matawan schools.
I expect the board to work with us parents and kids.
If the board chooses to totally disregard our opinion and act irresponsibly, I guess we need to make a change in the board during the next election.
One footnote, I’d like to express special thanks to Principal Patricia O’Keefe, Mrs. Feggeler (my son’s first-grade teacher) and the entire school teachers and staff members at Lloyd Road Elementary School for making my son’s first public school experience memorable. We love you and we will miss you all.
