Through Central High School’s recent voter registration drive, close to 80 high school seniors are ready to cast ballots.
Hopewell Valley has more registered voters as the result of a recent voter registration event at Central High School.
Through its spring voter registration drive, close to 80 high school seniors are now registered to vote.
"This number of registered voters is higher than in years past," explained Social Studies Supervisor Jack Wolff. "Through current events, the war in Iraq, Project Democracy and the upcoming presidential election, students seem to be more aware of their voting rights and more interested in exercising them," Mr. Wolff said.
The high school also is preparing for this spring’s Project Democracy, a Hopewell Valley program designed to teach students about the election process and the importance of voting.
The program involves all grade levels. On April 20 students will vote on a question that is unique to their school. Student representatives from all grades at the high school will debate their question Should there be a community service requirement for all high school students? on March 23.
